This is the storybook I did an audio recording for, I play both Charlie and lola.
This is the first take for Unit 1 of the story. I felt I did ok this take, I used some levels in my voice and a little intonation. I needed to watch for breath control, as you were able to hear me breath during the recording as though I was running out of breath. Also I should have watched for Background noise as you can hear it during the recording.
Feedback
- Think of the character
- Why are they saying this?
- Who are thy saying it to?
This was my main feedback to begin with. After looking at the feedback I went back and thought about the answers.
Charlie is about 7-8 years old, he is an older brother sometimes asked to look after lola for his parents
This is the intro, and so he could be talking to his class as though recalling the events in his head. like he's been asked to talk about something that usually goes on at home or about a family member and this is Charlie talking about Lola.
'I have to'
'ask me'
I was told to make sure not to stress these words too much, and perhaps act a bit more absentminded when saying I was asked or say it as though it's a normal thing.
This is some feedback I received from professional Audio Actor/Actor Peter Greenall
I agree with the feedback given, I felt in this recording, particularly for the first few lines 'I have this little sister lola' that I was reserved/apprehensive about what I was going to say as a result of being afraid of public speaking.
When recording this I need to sound more open and confident, I need to treat it as though no one is listening to me and remember that this is for an age group of children aged 4-7, children this age can get distracted easily and so being open and more energetic.

Script
When talking about what Lola does, I wanted to make sure to use different levels for each separate activity as well as be energetic.
this came across as you can tell by the feedback given, I was able to get the element of fun across and I was a lot more relaxed and comfortable.
My tutor has also suggested i try out some sound effects such as a little laugh in season 1 that is lola's laugh.
I like this idea and feel it could be good to apply to the piece.
This is the final take after taking into account all the feedback.
I felt like I was much more open and energetic with this take, I used initiation in order to make my voice more interesting so that it would catch, the younger audience.
there was a light tone to my voice showing that I am not scared or worried but instead happy and ready to tell this story to my audience.
